Appearing at the Soper Reese Theatre on Saturday, July 16, is the nationally recognized group, Occidental Gypsy, known for its dynamic mix of original vocal and instrumental pieces, most notably a “gypsyfied” take of Michael Jackson’s Thriller. The concert starts at 7:00 pm. All seats are $15.
Deftly blending gypsy swing, jazz and world music, the group features young prodigy violinist, Eli Bishop, who has just returned from a Wynton Marsalis tour. Lead guitarist Brett Feldman drives the sound with a swinging gypsy guitar, and front man Jonathan Hurley brings an eclectic and cinematic flair to the front of the stage. Guatemalan percussionist Erick “Banny” Cifuentes and bassist Jeff Feldman create infectious rhythms that keep feet stomping and people dancing. These energetic and charming entertainers interact with fans on a personal level and incorporate audience participation into every show.
